Topspin

A spin that is applied by drawing the face of the racket up across the ball at impact, resulting in the top of the ball turning in the same direction to its forward movement (i.e. the top will turn away the player who hit the ball, and towards the player who is about to receive it).

Topspin causes the ball to drop faster than by gravity alone, and is used by players to allow the ball to be hit harder but still land on the table.

When extreme topspin is put on the ball, the shot is called a loop.
