Stepping Footwork

Also known as Shuffle Step.

A term that is used to describe one of the basic methods of moving around the court, typically used when a player wants to cover a short distance to the right or left. For larger distances, crossover footwork is used.

A shuffle step to the left is performed by moving the right foot towards the left (not towards the left foot, which is further back), and just before touching the ground, also moving the left foot to the left. The right foot will hit the ground first, followed by the left foot, and then the player will hit the ball. Regardless of the amount travelled, both feet should move the same distance.

The player's left foot should finish 15-30 cm in front of the right foot, when compared to the shoulders, whether they are travelling to the left or to the right.
