Rubber

The covering glued to one or both sides of a table tennis blade (often over a thin layer of sponge) to make a complete racket. Rubber surfaces can vary from pimpled to inverted (flat), the choice of which is used to determine ball control and spin.

Under ITTF rules, it is illegal to strike the ball with a side of the blade that does not have a rubber sheet glued to it.
