Robot

A machine that may be set up on one side of the table in order to help a player practice on a particular shot or to increase the player's fitness.

Most robots use spinning wheels to eject the ball with various combinations of topspin, sidespin and backspin. The majority of robots can be remotely adjusted to deliver balls of differing rate, speed, spin and placement, allowing a more realistic training experience.

Many robots also use what is known as a feed mechanism, where a net is used to catch the balls and recycle them for reuse, allowing many balls to be hit in one training session.
