Fish

A topspin stroke that is performed at a medium to far distance from the table (in most cases, 8 feet or more). The ball is struck with heavy topspin, normally high over the net, landing deep on the opponent's side of the table.

A player who plays this type of shot hopes for a weak topspin from their opponent, which they can then counterattack. It is used to give a player time to get back into position when under pressure, while still making it difficult for the opponent to finish the point due to the heavy topspin and depth of the player's shot.

A player who repeatedly uses this shot is said to be fishing.
