Block

A defensive return shot on which the racket is simply held in front of the ball, with little or no movement. This type of shot is performed mainly against powerful loops and smashes, in order to take advantage of the speed and spin of an opponent's stroke. The ball is hit soon after it bounces, before it has a chance to move too far off the table in any direction.
