Anti-Spin Rubber

Also known as Anti-Topspin.

A slick, inverted rubber sheet that does not react to or produce spin, returning a 'dead' ball. Mainly used for defensive shots, anti-spin rubber usually has a very dead sponge underneath.

An opponent's topspin ball will go back to the opponent as backspin, and vice versa, as the same spin is on the ball, but the ball is now moving in the opposite direction.
